The dark boundary band between the Fringe and the Wilds, named on the maps and entered by almost no one.

What the Edge Is

The Edge is the boundary band of Danger City, the place where the rebuilt city gives out and the reclaimed land begins. It is off the grid entirely. Past the last working streetlight the wiring stops, the pavement breaks apart, and the buildings the city abandoned fill slowly with water, root, and silt. The Core is always lit. The Fringe is lit when it is lucky. The Edge is dark, and stays dark, because no one was ever paid to light it.

People go to the Edge for the reasons people always go to the part of a city no one is watching: to disappear, to scavenge, to buy or sell what cannot be bought or sold anywhere else, or to die somewhere no one is keeping count. Danger City names the Edge. Danger City does not enter it.

Where It Sits

The Edge is not the Wilds. It is the threshold before them. Behind it stands the Fringe, still wired, still fighting. Ahead of it lies the Wilds, the open country the city never reclaimed at all. The Edge is the in-between, the last place that still half-remembers being part of Danger City and is slowly forgetting. It is where the salvage economy meets the city, where the people who go out into the Wilds come back to trade, and where the city's runaways spend their first nights finding out whether they meant it.

The Districts

The Edge sits at the far side of the story, so its districts are named more than they are known. They are sketches of places, half-rumor, the way you know the rough parts of a map you have never actually walked.

Pacifica. A drowned coastal town that kept its own name, because nobody spends money renaming what the sea already owns. It went under early, and it is still going under.

The Colony. Squatters and artists making things in abandoned buildings, running on stolen and salvaged power.

Cold Storage. The ruined archives and data farms, the servers gone dark, picked over by the few who still believe the old world left something worth finding.

Tideline. The drowned parks and fairways, where the sea came up and decided to stay.

Lastlight. The last lit place before the true dark, running on generators. Lawless after hours, which out here is most hours.

Drydock. A silted marina, boats in dry mud, a smuggling hub wearing the face of the resort it used to be.

Past all of it, the Wilds, the land beyond the Edge that the city never took back. The city names the Edge so it has a door to point at. The door stays shut.

That is the Edge. The dark rim of Danger City, where the lights and the law and the lying all finally run out. The Core spends fortunes making sure no one looks at it too long, because the Edge is the one honest answer to the question the Core would rather no one ever asked: this is what all of it becomes, the day the power stops.
